Rebetiko, the so-called “Greek blues”, is one of the most popular forms of music in Greece. At the beginning of the 20th century, this music reached its heyday in the subculture of the major Greek cities. Rebetiko established itself in the working-class districts of Athens, Piraeus and Thessaloniki, but also in the diaspora. The lyrics reflected the suffering, everyday worries and experiences of ordinary people. The band “Rebetikon” has set itself the goal of reproducing this music unadulterated in its rawness and simplicity in order to revive the authentic sound of this time.
